For the production of prototypes, MAS utilises a DMG Mori NTX 2000 mill-turn machining center equipped with Esprit CAM software. Esprit offers a simulation model of the machine for the verification of programs, as well as a factory-certified DMG Mori post processor that ensures correct output to the machine.
The acquisition of the machine tool and software motivated Marc Decker, MAS production manager-prototype development, to take training on Esprit. From experience working with Mori Seiki machine tools, Decker was very effective in programming directly on the Mori Seiki MAPPS IV control, but discovered the full benefits of using the Esprit during his training.

“The possibility of using directly 3D data from Siemens NX to work in Esprit facilitates the geometry definition,” Decker says. “On top of that, the ability to set up processes just once, store them, and reuse them on similar geometry is unbeatable. I was surprised by how easily and quickly I now am able to program my parts. Compared to programming on the Mapps IV control, I improved by up to 40%.”
Defined processes increase standardisation
Saving time and eliminating errors in the definition of geometry, Esprit can directly process data from all major CAD systems, while the ability to reuse defined processes increases standardisation, automation and process reliability. By creating of a pool of company-specific standard processes that can be easily shared, the knowledge of individual employees is then available to the whole team. These processes can be categorised and stored based upon the type of technology, taking into account the process and tool set, material properties, and much more. All of these advantages are fully used by MAS Tools & Engineering to serve people: customers who demand higher productivity.
