Sandvik Coromant Thread-tapping tools optimise productivity in machining ISO materials

Editor: Eric Culp

Sandvik Coromant offers a comprehensive programme of thread-tapping tools organised for easy selection and use. The two core ranges are CoroTap, engineered to optimise productivity in each of the ISO material classifications, and Spectrum, consisting of taps designed to provide reliable performance in multimaterial machining.

Users of CoroTap tools can expect to create high-quality threads at high speeds. These taps are each intended for use with a specific type of material. CoroTap 210 and CoroTap 370, for example, are capable of producing through holes and blind holes in steel materials. Here, edge design is important; the CoroTap edge treatment and grade coating help minimise the axial forces and torque the tool generates in operation. The tool runs more smoothly, with advantages for workpiece surface quality and tool life.

Spectrum taps for multimaterial machining support both productivity and effective capacity utilisation through their versatility. Designed for applications in which flexibility and mixed material production are paramount, this range includes cutting taps in a choice of DIN-, DIN/ANSI-, ANSI- and ISO-standard grades for through holes and blind holes. They can perform at a high level with good chip evacuation owing to their flute profile and constant rake angle along the flute. The Spectrum range comprises forming taps as well; these, also featuring an optimised flute profile, generate low torque and produce a smooth surface on the finished thread.
