Rückle Swivelling table handles heavy workpieces in a single clamping position
Germany – Rückle Werkzeugfabrik has released the MRT 800 2xs combined turning and swivel unit, which is said to meet demands for multi-face accessibility and machining of massive workpieces in a single clamping position.
Its rigid mounting and parallel feed are intended to provide users with extremely good geometric workpiece accuracy and low set-up costs, the company said.
Heavy workpieces, such as turbine casings for jet engines, are put into position at an angle. Rückle said that this solution is more efficient and makes the process safer than angling the tool and that the combined turning-swivel unit enables complex geometries such as undercuts and oblique drill holes to be executed accurately. The company further asserted that the MRT offers distortion-free pallet clamping and is suitable for the precise machining of workpieces weighing up to 4,000 kg.
The uncompensated positioning accuracy of the rotary tables is claimed to be less than ± 2 arc-seconds, with axial and radial run-out accuracy at under 10 µm. The rotary actuator consists of a worm gear or torque motor and can be adapted to the requirements of the application. The exchangeable middle section allows the positioning and milling operations rotary axis to be replaced with an axis for combined turning and milling.
