SPI: the Plastics Industry Trade Association has organized an NPE2012 “Super Sunday” to usher in what promises to be a resurgent NPE exposition. The day offers networking opportunities, social events and presentations by top business leaders.

The schedule for Super Sunday, April 1, includes a morning golf tournament and evening Opening Gala, for each of which separate registration is required, plus three afternoon events open to all who have registered to attend NPE2012. A highlight of the Opening Gala is the keynote address by Jon Huntsman Jr., former Utah governor and US ambassador and recent candidate for US president.

According to Gene Sanders, senior vice president in charge of trade shows for SPI, Super Sunday will be a day of celebration for what is shaping up to be a successful NPE2012, with significantly more exhibits, more machinery in operation and higher visitor attendance than the previous edition in 2009. The show marks two historical milestones, says Sanders: the 75th anniversary of SPI and NPE’s move to Orlando, Florida, after 40 years in Chicago.

Besides the SPI 75th anniversary golf tournament and the Opening Gala, which includes an induction ceremony for new members of the Plastics Hall of Fame, events planned for Super Sunday include a brand-owner session of four presentations with panel discussion, an American-style barbecue in the late afternoon, and an orientation session to familiarize show attendees with the event’s new venue, the Orange County Convention Center.

The exhibition halls for the trade fair proper will be open April 2–5.
