MEX/ Schott Systeme Streamlined mould design and machining
With Schott Systeme's Pictures by PC CAD/CAM software, company experts will be on-hand at the Moulding Expo to show visitors the advantages of its software.
Germany-based software developer Schott Systeme will demonstrate in Stuttgart a range of technologies that streamline mould tool design and machining with the company's Pictures by PC CAD/CAM software.
With this software, the semi-automatic splitting of CAD solid and surface parts at edges and silhouettes curves aids in the creation of core and cavity surfaces. Scanned models can also be used as a basis for mould-making, enabling support for undercut detection, splitting of mesh models and mesh offsetting for the application of wall thicknesses, the company explains.
Schott also notes that productivity gains in mould machining can be achieved with the company's Pictures by PC 3.8 software version. The introduction of the HPC (high performance cutting) Trochoidal 3D Roughing function facilitates quick removal of harder tooling materials.
Spiral Finishing subsequently enables the moulds to be finished using a single spiral toolpath that maintains constant contact between the tool and work piece, removing the need for connecting and retraction toolpaths. This is said to reduce machining time, while improving surface finish. The maximum tool step-over is also calculated in relation to the angle of the surfaces to be machined (flat and steep regions), which thus ensures a maximum machining cusp height regardless of the region that needs to be machined.
