A strategic partnership brings together Sigma Engineering, renowned for its expertise in LSR injection moulding simulation, and Momentive Performance Materials, a leading manufacturer of silicone and silicone derivatives. This alliance is set to bring significant advances to the silicone processing industry. The primary challenge addressed by this partnership is the production of high precision components that must meet stringent requirements, including the highest thermal expansion and compressibility of any elastomer. Improved accuracy of material data and a deeper understanding of the material will improve the accuracy of predictions made by simulations, providing significant benefits to the industry.

Current simulation practices use standardised laboratory values to define material laws, which are inadequate to describe the complex behaviour of components. Traditional material data does not yet include the observation and consideration of process parameters during processing. The new partnership aims to integrate data from real injection moulding processes to refine and calibrate material data, improving the reliability of simulation results and the quality of material data.

“We are very much looking forward to working together with Sigma Engineering,” says Holger Albrecht, Vice President and Head of the Elastomer Business Unit at Momentive. “The more precise the material data in LSR processing, the more accurate the simulation can be. This is certainly an advantage for companies in the silicone processing industry — because there is potential for far-reaching optimizations in the manufacturing process.”
