3D Design Software SolidWorks-based software suite targets improvement of plastic-parts, mould design
Dassault Systèmes’ SolidWorks Plastics software is said to help designers improve plastic-part and injection mould designs, and the suite’s modules run fully embedded inside SolidWorks.
The company, a supplier of 3D design software, 3D digital mock-up and product lifecycle management solutions, said the easy-to-use software tools in the suite are designed so users can predict and avoid manufacturing defects during the early stages of plastic-part and injection mould design. Embedded in SolidWorks, the tools let part designers and mould makers work in a familiar environment and tailor part and mould designs for manufacturability. Specifically, SolidWorks Plastics is said to give users valuable knowledge to help them determine how changes to part geometry, mould design, material selection or processing conditions might affect part manufacturability.
According to Dassault, the SolidWorks Plastics tools are based on technology from Simpoe SAS, a French developer of plastic-injection-moulding simulation software. As a SolidWorks Gold Partner, Simpoe provides fully integrated, fully interoperable single-window functionality for SolidWorks.
Monica Menghini, executive vice president for marketing, industry and corporate communications at Dassault Systèmes, said, “We believe a significant percentage of our installed user base is involved in plastic part or injection mould design and will benefit from the robust features in SolidWorks Plastics, The addition of SolidWorks Plastics into our product portfolio allows us to expand into new areas while following the traditional SolidWorks focus on ease of use and features that provide real benefits to customers.”
Alain DuBois, president and CEO of Simpoe, said the extension of his company’s relationship with Dassault Systèmes provides access to Dassault’s reseller channel with a product for part and mould designers that lets them minimise errors and costs and accelerate time to market.
The suit is offered in two packages: SolidWorks Plastics Professional for part designers and SolidWorks Plastics Premium for mould designers and mould makers.
