Schott Systeme's CAD/CAM software Pictures by PC for mould design and machining now has an enhanced CAM feature recognition suite. Integrated tools let machinists identify features on CAD data for both milling and drilling faster, the company said.

The tools enable recognition of typical 2.5D pocket and drilling features on 3D solid prismatic models and 2D CAD drawings and offer extraction of features from complex freeform solid and surface models, it said. This functionality lets mould designers and machinists instantly identify and select features such as the smallest radius surfaces on a model.

The software's wide range of predefined workshop machining strategies support the single-click application of milling and drilling operations to geometry previously selected by CAM feature recognition tools, the company said. Toolpaths are converted into an NC programme with one of the standard machine post processors within the software.
