According to software supplier Camtek, in times of high-performance wire EDM machines, complex jobs, high costs and time pressure, the demand for fast, flexible and most of all secure machine programming is rising.

This was behind the development of the company’s Opticam product, said to be fully integrated in Solidworks. The wire EDM solution also includes automatic feature recognition, according to the supplier.

Thanks to its simple and clean user interface, the program allows users to work quickly in a known CAD environment, the company said. NC programs can be generated simply and quickly in combination with the automatic feature recognition, it explained.

Opticam is said to be fully associated with the Solidworks model. Parts are analysed, wireable geometries recognised, and at the same time the tool path and machining operations are created. Users can save their own templates containing technology and machining information, which can also be assigned automatically, for example, in connection with a specific face colour.

The software is said to contain high quality technology databases and post processors that have been developed in close cooperation with machine manufacturers. This way, even complex parts can be programmed with just a few clicks, still giving the user the full flexibility to intervene in every detail, the company said.
