Smart Factory

The Smart Factory is closely associated with Industry 4.0. But what makes a factory smart? And what are the pitfalls to be avoided when upgrading an existing facility? This and more can be read in the ETMM Smart Factory Dossier.

“What will manufacturing look like in the future?” might be the wrong question to ask. For some, the future is already the present and they have a different future in mind. How factories can look in 2025 might still be up for debate, but the underlying idea is already known: networking. More machines being interconnected with other machines. This goes for smaller companies as well as the big players.
The virtual space is part of this huge shift that is currently happening in the industry. But being aware of technology and making the most of it are two separate things. Yet, the second will not work without the first. This is why one of the articles in this dossier covers learning and working in the virtual space.
And finally, since Smart Factory and all the technologies found within it are all part of the great shift to 4.0, a handy list of the big Dos and Don'ts marks the end of our dossier.
