Seco is incorporating Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) as a systematic approach to evaluate the environmental impact of its products across their lifecycle, from raw material extraction to disposal. This initiative aims to support sustainability goals and provide customers with data to make informed, environmentally conscious decisions. LCA provides insights into key metrics, such as climate impact (CO2eq) and other environmental factors, enabling both internal process improvements and greater transparency for customers.

2024 highlights

During 2024, Seco concentrated on two pilot projects to advance its LCA implementation:

Turning Inserts: A project in Fagersta, Sweden, assessed the environmental impact of a significant portion of Seco’s insert portfolio.

Round Tools: Collaboration with a start-up in Lottum, the Netherlands, established a scalable LCA process for Solid End Mills, creating a foundation for further development.

These pilots provide data on the environmental impact of tools used in component manufacturing and link these insights with cutting data. Additional programs, such as the Reconditioning Program and Used Carbide Recycling Program, further reflect Seco’s focus on sustainability in manufacturing.

Looking ahead to 2025

Seco plans to expand its LCA coverage to include more products in its portfolio and enhance its My Pages platform with additional sustainability data. My Pages offers a centralized environment for accessing information such as quotations, product searches, and tool recommendations, while integrating sustainability insights for customer use.

By offering LCA as part of demonstrations and testing, Seco enables partners to perform feasibility studies and evaluations with a sustainability-oriented perspective.
