Sandvik Coromant Reliable and secure end milling concept for quick, heavy-duty operations
UK – Coromill Plura Heavy Duty from Sandvik Coromant is a new solid end milling concept for removing large amounts of metal in a short time and to provide reliability for heavy roughing in a wide range of cutting parameters, the supplier says.
The tool is said to do solid roughing end mill for shoulder and full slot milling, ramping and helical interpolation in steel and stainless steel, and can be used with cast iron and heat-resistant materials.
Its flute shape, Sandvik Coromant adds, designed as a result of a Finite Element Analysis, assures chip evacuation with a large depth of cut. This design is claimed to prevent re-cutting of chips and sudden tool breakage. It also offers full slot milling up to two times the diameter with five-tooth end mills. Stainless steel end mills benefit from internal coolant for chip evacuation and temperature control.
Two new grades are available: one for all-round conditions, preferably in dry machining and the other for tough conditions and in wet machining, Sandvik Coromant says. The tough face geometry is claimed to be good for ramping.
