Research Project targeting the benefits of conductivity: Application open
Editor: Briggette Jaya
The Kunststoff-Institut Lüdenscheid is organising a joint project on the topic of electromagnetic shielding in February 2019 and is inviting interested companies to register.
The Kunststoff-Institut will be supported by a certified testing institute, which will take over the EMC technical evaluation that is to be based on established measuring procedures during the project period.

With the progressive development of digitalisation and the associated interaction of electrical devices, the topic of electromagnetic shielding is gaining importance, especially in the electromobility and medical technology sectors as well as the E&E (electro technique and electro engineering) industry. Unintended radiation that is emitted can influence devices within a system and also cause system failure. With characteristics allowing for lightweight construction capability and freedom of design, EMC plastics provide added value in terms of resource-saving use of materials. For many companies, manufacturing EMC components in an economical injection moulding process is a profitable alternative to other manufacturing processes.
Kunststoff-Institut Lüdenscheid will offer a joint project in this segment in February 2019, which will initially deal with basic principles, highlighting influencing variables on the material side and material systems currently available on the market and their potential. Further test series are planned in which influencing variables and optimisation capabilities will be determined by their own compounding and material validation.
Furthermore, questions on application technology will be closely examined, for e.g., the metrological validation of these materials and component parts. The Kunststoff-Institut will be supported by a certified testing institute, which will take over the EMC technical evaluation that is to be based on established measuring procedures during the project period. The aim of the project is to develop a guideline of applications for shielding effectiveness when the use of plastics makes sense and for added value in product development. The project is currently in the application phase. Interested companies can register for this project now.
