Software company Productive Machines and CNC simulation and verification expert Machine Works have announced a strategic partnership to enhance CAM software through the Sense NC product suite. The collaboration aims to improve machining efficiency while creating new revenue opportunities for CAM software companies.

The Sense NC products offer autonomous capabilities, optimizing machining processes by automatically adjusting spindle speed and feed rates across toolpaths. This functionality reduces the need for manual intervention, allowing companies to achieve optimal machining conditions and prevent issues such as excessive tool wear, tool breakages, and chatter vibrations. By addressing physics-related challenges before they occur, the partnership seeks to reduce resource usage, energy consumption, and CO2 emissions.

Sense NC products are designed for ease of use, integrating into existing CAM platforms to provide machining physics-based optimization with minimal input from CAM programmers. Sense NC Feeds and Sense NC Finesse are currently available in Siemens NX CAM and Mastercam, with additional plugins for two more CAM software programs set to be released later this year. The Feeds solution addresses cutting force issues like tool breakages, while Finesse eliminates chatter vibrations, a longstanding challenge in the industry.

By incorporating these solutions directly into their platforms, CAM software companies can enhance their offerings and access new revenue streams. The partnership also includes joint go-to-market strategies to introduce these solutions to the wider CAM industry.
