GE Technology (Getek) has introduced its new ACU portable air cleaning unit, designed to combine high-efficiency particle filtration with customisable molecular filter technology in a mobile, self-contained system. The solution targets industrial, commercial and process-critical environments where contamination control and air quality are vital.

Unlike conventional mobile purifiers that rely on Hepa filters and standard activated carbon, the ACU can be equipped with Ulpa filters for performance beyond Hepa standards. In addition, Getek’s refillable Chemsorb media blends allow site-specific removal of airborne molecular contamination (AMC) such as acids, bases, VOCs, ozone and reactive gases — pollutants that standard adsorbents fail to capture.

By combining targeted molecular filtration with high-grade particle separation, the ACU helps facilities improve quality, reduce risks and support ESG goals by lowering consumable waste.

Flexible solution for sensitive processes

The ACU’s compact design and lockable castors enable rapid relocation to where local contamination occurs. Typical airflow is around 1,100 m³/h with Hepa H13 filtration, achieving up to 99.999 percent efficiency at MPPS. Applications include workplaces with high infection-control needs, industrial workshops and laboratories.

One particular focus is cleanroom manufacturing, where airborne molecular contamination can affect sensitive production steps. In plastics processing, for example, AMC is a challenge in medical injection moulding, where formaldehyde, hydrogen peroxide or other vapours may interfere with product quality or sterilisation processes. By removing such gases, the ACU can help stabilise environmental conditions and extend the service life of moulding tools, sensors and cleanroom infrastructure.

Tafs approach and sustainability benefits

Getek applies its Tafs engineering approach — combining on-site diagnostics, contamination analysis and tailored filter media — to adapt the ACU’s performance to the specific profile of each facility. Refillable filter trays reduce consumables waste, while optimised molecular media maintain energy efficiency and the corrosion-resistant housing extends service life.

Manufactured under ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001, the ACU and Chemsorb media are available with performance certifications to ANSI/ASHRAE 145.1. Materials can be supplied in RoHS- and REACH-compliant variants.

With its mobility, broad configuration options and focus on molecular contamination control, the ACU provides a flexible solution for industries facing stricter air quality demands — from electronics and precision manufacturing to plastics cleanroom moulding and beyond.
