Germany – Open Mind has introduced Hyper-Mill version 2016.1.
Along with its new Hyper-CAD-S version, both solutions are said to feature numerous improvemens and enhancements. Among the highlights is a processing strategy which speeds up Z-level finishing so significantly that the time required to machine can be reduced by up to 90%, Open Mind claims. Further features include a new rest material strategy and a new user interface for mill-turning.
Z-level finishing has been considered technically mature for decades. The often very long processing times to obtain high quality surfaces were deemed acceptable. The process forms part of the finishing module in Hyper-Mill Maxx Machining. According to the supplier, it enables high-efficiency preliminary finishing and finishing of planes and freeform surfaces with various barrel cutters. There is also great potential in tool and mould making as well as for aerospace, where numerous different planes often require machining, Open Mind explains. Hard to reach areas such as deep and narrow cavities can be efficiently processed.
Furthermore, the rest material cycle generates HSC-optimised toolpaths for rest machining. Intelligent filtering options and new algorithms make a shorter calculation time and better surface possible, Open Mind says.
It adds that defining and managing mill-turn cutting tool reference using the tool database is more convenient. Cutting inserts can also be defined in the tool database using the ANSI/ISO code, so that standardised tools can be created more quickly according to specifications. A revised user interface for mill-turn applications also makes work easier, the supplier claims. The cycles for finishing, roughing, grooving and parting are arranged in a menu window.
Thy Hyper-CAD-S CAD viewer be used to view model data fast and in a convinient way. According to Open Mind, this viewer supports all common file formats such as Catia, PTC Creo, Autodesk Inventor, STL, and many more. It is said to be ideal for job planning or quote calculation.
