Globalisation increases the competitive pressure on die and mould makers, but also offers the chance to profit from orders in fast-growing markets. At the same time the innovation wheel is turning at an increasingly faster speed, which requires adaptability and flexibility from companies. The high cost and time pressure forces companies to constantly improve their efficiency. By consistently standardising products and processes, major savings in time and cost can be made, which creates the decisive basis for the long-term success of a company. Over the entire life cycle of a product, the ability to influence the cost is highest during the design stage.

Thanks to the comprehensive range of die sets, Meusburger customers can find the right solution for every requirement. For example, the standard parts manufacturer offers the tried and trusted standard die set in sizes ranging from 156 x 156 to 696 x 1396 mm with or without pre-prepared pillar holes. The guide pillar can be fitted to the retainer plate or the base plate, depending on the application. For increased precision requirements, Meusburger has precision die sets in its range. Here the guide pillar is fitted to the backing plate, which ensures optimum transfer of the guiding system’s shear forces. Meusburger also has two-pillar die sets in its range. These offer the customer flexible application options through the different arrangement of the guide pillars (diagonal, central or back) and can be selected with or without a backing plate. Customers can use Meusburger’s die set wizards to help them select the right plates and components and thus create the finished die set with just a few clicks. They benefit not only from the best quality and maximum precision, but also from constant availability, as all standard parts for die making are available directly from stock within a very short time.

Reduced deformation through stress-relieving heat treatment

To ensure the very best quality, Meusburger not only produces its plates in house, but also has its own furnaces with a total capacity of 240 tonnes. The low-deformation material itself has a big influence on the manufacturing and maintenance costs of the dies: thanks to the high-grade steel, which is heat-treated for stress relief, and to the exact form and position tolerances, subsequent costs can be reduced.

High precision

The modular system of the die sets allows an almost unlimited number of possible combinations while maintaining the highest and most consistent precision. The Meusburger standard hole pattern with anti-rotation protection through the two offset pillar positions also enables highly accurate positioning of the guiding holes and correct assembly of the upper and lower part, while the alignment edge allows quick and precise alignment of the plate on the machine. The ventilation groove ensures the controlled escape of air when using sliding guides. Meusburger also offers the tried and trusted clamping system H 3000. That means that customers not only work quickly and efficiently, but also with absolute precision and repeatable accuracy. The plates are aligned and clamped where it is important for the die set function, i.e. in the guiding holes.

Successful project

To demonstrate the standardisation possibilities with Meusburger die sets in the best possible way, Meusburger developed a sectioned stamping die in 2023, together with the WBA Tooling Academy. It is equipped with innovative components from Meusburger and is used by the company for demonstration purposes at trade fairs and events. Another sectioned die set is exhibited at the WBA in Aachen. Thanks to its own department for making demonstration dies, WBA has the opportunity to test innovative solutions such as this model in a laboratory setting so they are quickly accessible to partner companies.
