Royal Products Oil-mist collector keeps metalworking machinery running, supports productivity goals

Editor: Eric Culp

Machine tool performance specialist Royal Products offers the Royal Filtermist, an established and proven accessory that collects oil mist and smoke generated by all types of metalworking machinery. The manufacturer has improved the device’s design continually over the course of 30 years. The latest version, the Filtermist FX series, represents the outcome of extensive computer-aided modelling and laboratory testing.

Failure to address mist and smoke issues adequately can result in unnecessary machine downtime and thus loss of productivity potential, Royal Products argues. Besides suffering from the obvious effects of oil mist (the need for cleaning and maintenance), productivity is further reduced if machine operators dial back on feeds and speeds in an effort to minimise mist production. Also, an often overlooked maintenance problem is the effect of oil mist on electrical contacts and electronic circuits.

Royal’s oil-mist collector is available in four sizes ranging in capacity from 275 to 1,200 ft3/min. Its flexible design allows it to be mounted in a variety of ways, including directly to the top of the machine tool, on a stand or suspended from the factory ceiling. Maintenance and operating costs of the Filtermist are minimal, according to the supplier.
