Nikon SLM Solutions and Materialise have announced a collaboration to develop the next generation of Materialise Build Processors (BPs) for Nikon SLM Solutions printers, seamlessly integrated with the Materialise CO-AM platform. The partnership aims to address the growing demand for metal additive manufacturing in the production of end-use parts, with a focus on improved part quality, cost efficiency and faster production. The collaboration will provide manufacturers with enhanced customisation of 3D printing processes.

Nikon SLM Solutions offers productive metal 3D printers with the largest build envelope in the industry, powered by twelve 1 kW lasers. However, the large volume of these printers results in increased data processing times, which this collaboration aims to minimise. The forthcoming Materialise BPs, designed for NXG and all SLM users using Materialise software, aim to reduce calculation times and offer users the ability to modify their 3D printing process to optimise application results.

The new BP, enabled by the Materialise BP Software Development Kit (SDK), will allow machine users to significantly reduce calculation times and customise machine parameters for optimal efficiency, quality and speed. This advancement is expected to improve the production of complex parts and mass production with consistent quality and reduced lead times.

In addition, the partnership enables Nikon SLM Solutions printers to be directly connected to Materialise's CO-AM software platform through SLM.Link. CO-AM allows users to integrate their 3D printers into existing production systems and streamline the AM workflow from start to finish, providing access to various solutions for design automation, mass customisation, labelling and post-processing technologies. This integration is part of both companies' vision to provide open systems that optimise the use of equipment and connect to preferred solutions.
