Germany - This biannual fair is said to be expanding with improved quality including international associations as exhibitors and delegation visitors being at the show in Stuttgart, the organisers says.

A trade fair “by the industry for the industry” - this idea has now been developed further by Messe Stuttgart. “Only this idea existed before the first trade fair. We have now fully arrived on the market. It is a great pleasure to see how Moulding Expo (MEX) is expanding and how well it is accepted by tool, pattern and mould manufacturers,” Florian Niethammer, project manager resposible for MEX said. The 2017 show is well on its way to actually surpass the results of the première in 2015. Niethammer: “Compared to 2015, more exhibition space has already been booked and the exhibitor list is very impressive with more than 550 companies having booked till now.”

Big players at the show

The increased quality of the event can already be seen in the current exhibitor list. With Hummel-Formen, a subsidiary of ElringKlinger AG, MEX has, for example, acquired another prominent company in the German industry. At the company plant in Lenningen, 160 employees work on a production area of 14,000 m2, producing large moulds weighing up to 50 tonnes for oil tanks, drive systems or cylinder head covers, and also increasingly in the last few years, for structural components such as cockpit cross-members or door modules. Eugen Kübler, head of the Lenningen plant noted, “Better networking with motor vehicle manufacturers and customers is essential for our company. In 2015 we saw that MEX was being developed as a purposeful trade fair where specialists and customers searching for tool construction and mould making could meet. We therefore quickly decided to become an exhibitor in 2017.”

Matchmaking in Istma Lounge

The second MEX will also be more international. Exhibitors will include companies from nearly every European country together with firms from the USA, Canada and the rest of the world. “We presented MEX in the most important European tool making clusters and impressed many of the national associations and their members,” Niethammer added.

He also noted that it is a highlight that MEX 2017 has acquired the International Special Tooling & Machining Association (Istma), as a global partner. Istma represents 30 national industry associations, with around 8,000 member companies worldwide. Jari Saaranen, the European president of Istma from Finland, regards the fair as an ideal platform to present the world association. “It is fantastic to see such close co-operation between the German industrial associations - German Association of Tool and Mould Manufacturers (VDWF), German Engineering Federation (VDMA), German Machine Tool Builders' Association (VDW) and German Association of Pattern and Mould Making (MF) - at MEX. This is unique and very important! Because it's all about the art of producing things and tool makers play a key role in industrial manufacturing of products. They must therefore work in an increasingly networked environment all over the world. MEX can fill the gap here and act as a communication platform for visitors and exhibitors from many countries.”

The association will be present at MEX in the Istma Lounge in Hall 4. The national associations will use best-practiced examples to report on training and technology transfer. “In podium discussions and during the presentation of key figures, representatives of the international tool manufacturing markets will find out where they can exchange information internationally and learn from one another,” Saaranen said. However, matchmaking areas will also be offered to the delegations and individual member companies when they come to Stuttgart as visitors in order to have meetings with their business associates.
