Ceratizit Milling with eight cutting edges, 90° approach angle

Luxembourg– Ceratizit has expanded its product range to include the Maxi-Mill 491 shoulder milling system. Its precision inserts with eight usable cutting edges produce profiles of exactly 90°, the company says.

According to the cutting tool company, many shoulder milling systems in the market feature an extremely complex design. Ceratizit has rethought the shoulder milling process and made it easier. The new insert seat design is said to enable the insert to be changed quickly, even inside the machine. The eight cutting edges come in the carbide grades Blackstartm and Silverstartm. Tool changing times have been reduced, Ceratizit says, because the Maxi-Mill 491 is suitable for both roughing and finishing. Additional machining operations are no longer necessary as the approach angle is exactly 90°. The inserts are said to guarantee very good axial and radial run-out, long tool life and high-quality surfaces. The tools with irregular pitch and perfectly adapted approach angles ensure reduced vibration and a smooth cut combined with low power consumption, the company says.

The Maxi-Mill 491 program includes tools with a nominal Ø from 32-160 mm and precision inserts in assembly size of 12 mm and a corner radius of 0.8 mm. The F-R-M chip grooves cover applications of steel, cast iron, stainless steel and aluminium materials in the ISO ranges P-K-M-N. The milling system is suitable for universal applications like face milling or slot milling.
