Walter has released the Blaxx mills with tangential inserts featuring four cutting edges made of the company’s high-performance Tigertec Silver grades.

The shoulder mills LNHU0904 and LNHU1306 have four twisted, positive cutting edges and the types F5041 and F5141 are suitable for cutting depths up to 8 and 12mm respectively, the company said. It added that with four grades, the mills can machine cast iron, steel, stainless steel and materials that are difficult-to-cut. With Blaxx, Walter also introduces two new high-performance PVD coatings: WSM35S and WSP45S.

Walter noted that the name Blaxx also stands for newly designed tool bodies. They are concentric with an exact runout, and the insert seats guarantee exact 90-degree steps for shoulder mills, the company said. The high-gloss black surface protects the body against wear and corrosion. The tangential inserts lie against the circumference of the body for more room for an even greater tool diameter, it said.
