A new chapter in 5-axis metrology will take centre stage at Mach 2026, as LK Metrology unveils a key software and scanning milestone on its latest Altera CMM platform. Alongside faster, more connected inspection workflows, the company will also spotlight point cloud analysis, portable measurement and compact CT technology.

LK Metrology will use Mach 2026 to showcase a major milestone in 5-axis coordinate measurement, combining its Camio software with a Renishaw Revo-2 high-speed scanning head for the first time. The system will run on the LK Altera M 20.10.8 Scantek 5 CMM, built at the company’s Castle Donington facility in Derbyshire.

Camio 2026 R2 is the first official release to provide full support for the Revo probing system. Developed to maximise the performance of advanced multi-sensor 5-axis CMMs, the software synchronises machine and probe movements, improves path planning and delivers faster, more flexible inspection with high accuracy. The release builds on earlier Camio advances, including native support for the PH20 5-axis touch-trigger head on compact CMM platforms.

Point cloud inspection joins the IMG software framework

LK will also highlight its point cloud inspection package Focus, integrated into the Camio suite last autumn. Now part of the strategic software framework of International Metrology Group (IMG), Focus allows data from laser scanning and tactile probing to be combined and analysed within a single Industry 4.0-compliant workflow, while maintaining full metrological traceability.

Focus supports LK’s handheld H120 laser scanner and Freedom measuring arms, offering part-to-CAD comparison and advanced feature inspection. The software can process point clouds exceeding 100 million points and includes tools such as the proprietary Fuse algorithm for automated high-quality polygon mesh generation. A wide range of CAD formats is supported, from Step and Iges through to Catia, NX, Creo and Solidworks.

Industrial X-ray CT scanning added to the portfolio

In computed tomography, IMG will present the Procon X-Ray Compact CT system. The benchtop machine features a high-resolution micro-Focus scanner capable of producing 3D volumetric models for non-destructive internal evaluation. Versions up to 160 kV are aimed at feature measurement, while lower-energy models support material analysis and defect detection down to single-digit microns.

An adjustable flat panel detector setup optimises contrast during full 360-degree scans. Reconstruction software begins building the 3D model while the scan is still running, reducing waiting times. CAD overlay functions generate deviation heat maps to highlight differences between manufactured parts and design intent.

Portable measurement with Freedom arms and H120 laser scanning

LK will demonstrate its 7-axis Freedom measuring arm (version 3) equipped with the H120 laser scanning sensor, now manufactured by LK following the acquisition of the business from Nikon Metrology at the end of 2024. Six-axis touch-probing configurations are also available.

The arms feature lightweight carbon fibre construction, thermal stability and absolute rotary encoders, enabling immediate use without referencing or warm-up. LK offers third-party inspection software options including Polyworks Inspector, Arco CAD, Focus and CMM Manager.

The H120 blue-laser scanner delivers a field of view up to 120 mm and point resolution down to 35 microns, with frame rates above 450 Hz even on difficult surfaces such as carbon fibre, gloss black or reflective parts. ESP4 technology dynamically adapts laser intensity at point level, minimising operator adjustment and supporting reliable scanning from any angle.

Virtual showroom expands global access

LK will also promote its online virtual showroom, providing an immersive 360-degree experience of its CMM and portable metrology portfolio. Accessible via PC, tablet or smartphone, the platform includes animations, downloadable 3D digital twins and augmented reality placement tools, alongside detailed specifications and a dedicated Software Hub for Camio and related inspection solutions.
