Australia – Grinding machine manufacturer Anca, from Australia, is introducing a line of cutting tool grinders that features cylindrical design linear motors for the X- and Y-axes, rather than the flat style typically found in machine tools.

Only the Z-axis, which moves the grinding head, uses a more conventional ballscrew drive, Anca said.

The FX Linear and MX Linear machine range premiered at IMTS in Chicago this year, and Anca CEO Grant Anderson was happy to announce the release on the occasion of the company's 40th anniversary. "Only eight months ago, Anca made the decision to embark on what seemed an almost impossible goal of designing and building a completely new machine for release at IMTS," he said. The new line promises users higher levels of grinding accuracy, less required maintenance, and a smaller footprint, the Australian manufacturer said.
