The current version of the software developer kit (SDK) 3D_Kernel_IO offers CAD interfaces for importing all important native and standard formats, the option of writing native formats such as Catia V5 and NX, and now also Solidworks and Step 242. Thanks to a new geometry kernel with optimised memory management, the software enables all common CAD formats to be loaded significantly faster than the previous version.

CAD interface SDK with new formats

To enable the consistent use of 3D models throughout the entire product lifecycle management process, 3D_Kernel_IO 2025 supports extensive 3D dimensioning. The so-called PMIs are generated from Catia V5/V6, NX, Creo, Solidworks, JT and Step 242 both as semantic information and in the form of polylines and tessellated curves.

A special highlight of the new tool is its support for design history and kinematic information. Efficient healing functions check and improve data quality as soon as the models are imported. Compared to the previous version, a more precise and faster tessellation function ensures high-quality visualisation models that can be resolved as desired.

With the help of standardised queries and C++ functions, information about the B-rep geometry, assembly structure, history and parametric data, as well as PMI and attributes of the CAD models, is made available in detail in a unified data structure.

The 3D_Kernel_IO 2025 software is programmed in C++ and runs cross-platform on Windows, macOS and Linux, as well as on ARM64 processors in the new version. The architecture enables simple, uniform integration for all supported formats. Developers benefit from a supplied 3D viewer with source code examples and comprehensive Doxygen documentation. Four updates per year ensure that new CAD formats are always up to date and software developers are supported via direct support contact.
