Hasco has added DLC-coated latch locking units to its product portfolio. DLC (diamond-like carbon) coatings are carbon films with high hardness, high resistivity and dielectric and optical properties, which constitute the ideal solution for keeping friction and wear down to a minimum, the company explained.
As a result, the Z170, Z171 and Z174 latch locking units are reportedly especially suited for the food and medical sectors largely due to their low coefficients of friction, which eliminate the need for lubrication.
The coating avoids dimensional changes in the functional surfaces, so the devices fit existing systems. The latch locking units, primarily for injection moulds with multiple plate movements, are said to guarantee maximum corrosion protection. The tribological properties improve mould service life, help minimise wear and contribute to better productivity and lower costs of mould construction, the supplier said.
