NPE2012 Jon Huntsman Jr. to Speak at NPE2012 Opening Gala

Jon Huntsman Jr., recent former Utah governor, ambassador to China and candidate for the US presidency, will deliver the keynote address at the formal opening gala of the NPE2012 international plastics exposition.

SPI: The Plastics Industry Trade Association, which produces the triennial NPE, announced on February 15 that Huntsman had accepted the invitation to speak. Huntsman, 51, has had a notable career not only in public service but also with the global plastics and chemicals company founded by his father, Jon M. Huntsman Sr. He is now a member of the board of Huntsman Corp.

Taking place on the evening of Sunday, April 1, 2012, in Orlando, Florida, the NPE opening gala will celebrate the 75th anniversary of SPI and the 50th anniversary of the Plastics Hall of Fame. Ten plastics industry leaders will be inducted into the Hall of Fame during the event. The gala is a formal event that includes a reception and a banquet. On the following day, and through April 5, the NPE2012 exhibit halls and conferences will be open at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando.

Governor Huntsman has an extensive background in international affairs and trade negotiation. He has served as deputy assistant secretary of commerce for Asia, deputy US trade representative and US trade ambassador. He has negotiated dozens of free trade agreements and brokered other bilateral and multilateral trade agreements for the United States with China, Taiwan, Singapore, Australia, India, Vietnam, West Africa, South Africa and other regions of Asia and Africa. In addition, the keynoter has served on the boards of several prominent Asian policy institutions, among other distinctions.

His father, Jon Huntsman Sr., is a member of the Plastics Hall of Fame, having been inducted during NPE1994.
