Sumitomo Electric Hartmetall Innovative tooling and coating technologies
Germany – Sumitomo is presenting its latest tooling developments and tool coating technologies.
Among them are the new AC6030M and AC6040M carbide grades for stainless steels; T1000A and T1500A uncoated cermet grades for general turning tasks; and BNC2010 and BNC2020 cubic boron nitride (CBN) grades for specific use in hard turning. Its Absotech platinum anti-chipping coated AC8025P general turning insert will also make its debut. Absotech platinum is a five-stage CVD multi-layer smooth surface coating with a new titanium compound outer layer. It can already be found on AC6030M inserts and will be available on the new range of AC8025P universal general turning tool grades for applications on steel.
The company will also exhibit its latest solid carbide SumiDrill Power-Series of low frictional cutting, high performance drills. These include the SDP model that is aimed at general hole making applications and features “double margin” relief and a high lubricity PCX 70 multi-layer coating. SumiDrill SDM, developed for stainless steel materials, has lower cutting force geometry.
The hybrid Sumiboron CBN high precision grade BNC2010’s seven-layer coating has been developed for hard turning applications, such as grinding. The BNC2020 insert, with a CBN substrate and TiAiN layer, is for continuous cutting. These CBN inserts incorporate a new series of Break Master NFV, NLV and NSV application specific chipbreakers, the company explains.
