Industrial packaging company Lesters has launched a new dedicated automotive division aimed at enhancing supply chain sustainability. This division will serve OEMs, first and second-tier suppliers, and third-party logistics providers.

The initiative is supported by a team of experts in design, sales, marketing, and logistics, who will assist clients in reducing their carbon footprint by optimizing supply chains and replacing plastics and foams with sustainable packaging materials.

“Our automotive experience, expertise and consultative approach go beyond the product to help identify and create value in supply chains…whether that is reducing end-to-end costs, increasing efficiencies or boosting sustainability,” said Mark Aucott, Automotive Business Manager at Lesters. He emphasized the complexity of the sector and the importance of a circular approach in their new offering.

By leveraging this method, Lesters has helped several automotive customers potentially reduce supply chain costs by up to 25 percent. The company also offers supply chain services through Lesters Logistics, providing next-day delivery, ‘stock and serve,’ and ‘pick and pack’ services.

Lesters has recently invested over £7 million in expanding its capabilities, including high-performance box manufacturing, design, and innovation facilities. With its TCY Casemakers, capable of printing in three colors, the company can produce over 465,000 large format sustainable cases per day.

In the automotive sector, Lesters offers heavy-duty packaging for intricate components and 'Easy Pick' folding pick bins that require no gluing or staples. The company also specializes in bespoke die cuts, offering a variety of styles and board grades with strength and weight-saving features.

Mark Aucott highlighted the company's role in supporting the electrification trend and new automotive start-ups, ensuring smooth transitions into production. A notable example is Lesters' collaboration with Rolec, a leading EV chargepoint manufacturer. Lesters developed a new packaging solution for Rolec’s Zura intelligent charger, optimizing it for courier services and enhancing the end-user experience while reducing the number of SKUs from four to one.
