Software Injection moulding simulation with fast results
Sigma Engineering GmbH said it is showcasing its injection moulding simulation Sigmasoft Version 5.0 with reduced simulation times.
The software is said to have whole new solver technology and an innovative enmeshment concept. Calculation times are said to be up to 50% faster for thermoplastic applications and up to 80% for elastomer processes compared to the previous version.
On the one hand, the decreased calculation times result from a new enmeshment concept, which allows creating “unstructured, intelligent meshes”, the company said. The refinement of these meshes is automatically improved in regions with complex thermal and flow conditions, such as boundaries or thin walls. In regions with less interaction, as in the outer parts of the mould, the algorithm produces a coarser mesh. According to the supplier, the user can thus create the meshes for complete moulds in a matter of minutes, without the need for further manual improvements. In this way, the productivity of the software is said to increase, while the numeric complexity and the user effort are reduced.
On the other hand, the company noted, the shorter calculation times result from the new solver technology, which results in improvements of the simulation due to fully parallelised calculations. Instead of using 2 CPUs as a maximum, as in previous versions, in Sigmasoft v 5.0 up to eight CPUs can be used for calculating with an extension of the software license.
Besides higher accuracy and shortened calculation times, the new solver technology allows for the simulation of further details of today’s injection moulding processes, which is said to make the software to suit future developments and customer requirements.
