EMO Milano 2021 Industry 4.0-ready components facilitate automation of the tool room

Editor: MA Alexander Stark

Germany — At EMO 2021 in Milano, the Haimer Group will be demonstrating how modern tool management works: with high-quality, process-reliable components, with continuous digitisation up to fully automated tool presetting and secure transmission of digital tool data to the machine.

Haimer now offers all steep taper chucks also with face contact, which provide higher stability due to additional support at the flange face. Already available from stock are shrink fixtures and Power Collet or High Precision Collet Chucks with face contact for the BT30, BT40 and BT50 interfaces.

The Haimer Group offers a wide range of tool holders, shrinking and balancing technology, tool presetting devices as well as carbide tools and measuring probes. The company's tool room solutions are designed to facilitate automation efforts in the tool room. The tool management system DAC (Data Analyzer and Controller) for instance enables a continuous exchange of tool data between the individual Tool Room stations and the company network. The identification of the tool holders either by integrated RFID data chips or via QR or Data Matrix codes (which can be read and evaluated by various systems via a scanner) plays a key role in this field. It ensures that the tool can be clearly identified. The user controls the entire process only by clicking and confirming or accepting values. Since no manual input is necessary or possible, there is no risk of incorrect input and thus no risk of collisions.

In addition to this general concept, Haimer will present numerous product innovations and improvements at EMO Milano 2021. They range from new carbide cutters and tool chucks to the high-end presetting device that combines shrinking and measuring technology.

The Haimer Mill carbide cutters are now available in long and short versions. In addition, a new geometry for high feed milling is available with the Haimer Mill HF series.

New, extra slim shrink fit chucks and mini shrinks with SK40 and SK50 have been added to the tool holders. As for all other shrink fit chucks, they feature finely machined functional surfaces. The chuck bodies are finely balanced and have a concentricity of G2.5 at 25,000 per minute.

Equipped for digital data transfer

All of the manufacturer's shrink fit, balancing and tool presetting machines are now available in i4.0 versions — from entry-level to the high-end versions. This also applies to their new machines, such as the Power Clamp Nano NG i4.0. The horizontal shrink fit device is suitable for small tool holders in high frequency spindles, shrink fit collets and shrink fit chucks up to SK40/HSK-A63.

Gentle and clean, contour-independent cooling of all tool holders by air — without dirt and water residues — is assured by the new high-performance shrink fit unit Power Clamp Air i4.0, which has integrated cooling for all types of tools (HM and HSS). It is available in Eco and Comfort versions and is designed for process-safe shrinking and cooling of shrink collets and tool holders.

The new Tool Dynamic TD Comfort Plus i4.0 balancing machine offers high user-friendliness and convenience. In addition to network compatibility (i4.0 ready) and the possibility of digital data transfer to the machine tool, they are equipped with the 27" multi-touchscreen operation via a separate control terminal.

The combination of shrinking and presetting technology offered by the Microset VIO linear toolshrink is efficient and process-reliable, the company states. The device ensures precise axis positioning thanks to the linear drive, the fully automatic induction unit and automatic length adjustment of +-10 µm.
