Hutchinson has introduced Lubritape-E, a new PFAS-free coating designed for multi-way valve sealing pads in automotive applications. Developed by the group’s Precision Sealing Systems (PSS) division, the solution is positioned as a sustainable alternative to PTFE films while maintaining comparable performance.

The transparent film is applied to rubber components and offers a low friction coefficient (Dynamic CoF Dry: 0.1 | Wet: 0.05), high abrasion resistance, water repellency, and compatibility with EPDM. It withstands temperatures from -50°C to +115°C. According to the company, these properties improve energy efficiency, extend component life, and enable straightforward integration into automated production.

The coating is particularly suited to thermal management modules and multi-way rotary valves, where it helps ensure leak-free operation under high temperature and pressure conditions. Antoine Daviau, R&D Manager at Hutchinson in Saint-Brieuc, France, said the development reflects the company’s commitment to industrial transformation in line with the shift to vehicle electrification.

Hutchinson emphasized that Lubritape-E results from collaboration between its R&D, production, and engineering teams, and forms part of its broader strategy to support manufacturers with sustainable, high-performance sealing solutions across the full development cycle.
