In high-precision tool manufacturing, even the slightest temperature fluctuation can compromise quality. That's why ultra-fine filtration and exact cooling of lubricants are mission-critical. With advanced filter and cooling systems, Vomat ensures toolmakers achieve perfect dimensional accuracy, longer tool life, and stable processes.

Every detail is crucial in the manufacture of high-precision cutting tools — especially the process-reliable, temperature-stable ultra-fine filtration of cooling lubricants. This is because even minor temperature fluctuations in the production process can have a noticeable effect on the quality of the tools. With state-of-the-art filter and cooling technology, the filter manufacturer Vomat from Treuen/Germany ensures that tool manufacturers can consistently meet the highest quality requirements.

The precise coordination of cooling lubricants and their ultra-fine filtration plays a central role in today's tool production. This is because the increasing demands on dimensional accuracy, surface quality and tool life can only be met under optimum production conditions.

From individual systems to large centralized systems, Vomat's tailor-made ultra-fine filtration systems separate 100 percent of dirty and clean oil in full flow — with a purity according to NAS 7 (3-5 µm). On-demand full-flow filtration in a backwash process with an automatic cycle depending on the amount of dirt, regulated filter pumps (positive energy balance) and state-of-the-art cooling and disposal technology ensure economic and ecological success. “Many grinding companies rely on maximum precision when grinding tools. But what about the accuracy of the grinding oil and room temperature? Precision doesn't start with the workpiece — it starts with the right conditions! Modern sanding systems react sensitively to even the slightest temperature fluctuations,” says Steffen Strobel. “Even minimal deviations can have significant effects. They can impair dimensional accuracy and surface quality, shorten tool life and destabilize the process. With Vomat technology, we keep the grinding oil and room temperature accurate to 0.2 °C — for constant conditions, greater dimensional accuracy, longer tool life and more stable production processes.”

Innovative cooling concepts for constant temperature control

In addition to high-performance filters, cooling is therefore at the heart of filtration technology. It must be very efficient and controllable in the smallest increments. Vomat offers various systems depending on the requirements.

For example, for the 120 to FA 240 machine types, the cooling system is optionally integrated into the filter system as a slide-in unit. This enables simple disassembly and assembly on site without service personnel. The condenser is hinged into the filter hood and the control accuracy is +/- 0.2 K. If cooling of the axis drives, spindles and motors is required, modular units can be connected to the filter system.

There are also add-on units or units mounted on the outside wall of the building with a condenser or for external cooling for machine models FA 120 to 960. The cooling capacity here is 9 to 60 kW with a control accuracy of +/- 0.2 K at ambient temperatures of 15°C to 35°C. Precise room temperature control is possible as an option. Precise room temperature control is available as an option.

One example of a chilled water-driven solution with an external water circuit is the KWS 250 chiller with integrated radiator circulation pump and compact Eaton control system. It has a cooling capacity of 250 kW for brine operation. The control accuracy is +/-1.0 K. The modular chiller, which does not require a buffer tank, is also suitable for outdoor installation in industrial areas, for example. The dimensions are 2200 x 1900 x 2700 mm (W x L x H). The KWS 250 scores particularly highly for its performance and energy efficiency. According to Vomat, the chiller consumes up to 62 percent less energy than conventional systems.
