New date confirmed Hannover Messe to be postponed

From Sebastian Hofmann

Due to the spread of the omicron variant, Deutsche Messe has postponed Hannover Messe to the summer. Originally, the world's most important industrial show was planned for the end of April.

There has been speculation about it for days, but now it is a certainty: Hannover Messe will take place in 2022 from 30 May to 2 June - and not at the end of April as usual. The organiser announced this in a press release a few minutes ago.

"Last year we were able to establish that during the pandemic the summer months are best suited for major events," says Dr. Jochen Köckler, Chairman of the Board of Deutsche Messe AG."Since at the present time we cannot assume that the situation surrounding Covid will have eased sufficiently by April, we are offering our customers the greatest possible planning security with the timely postponement of the dates so that they can present their innovations at the world's most important industrial fair."

The decision was made in close consultation with Hannover Messe exhibitor advisory board and the partner associations VDMA and ZVEI, Deutsche Messe said. Onuora Ogbukagu, head of the press team, told MM Maschinenmarkt that the company had already considered postponing the fair in mid-December. In 2021, the fair had been held as a digital event; in 2020, at the beginning of the pandemic, it was cancelled completely.

Partner country and focus topic

This year's guest country is Portugal. The nation plans to present itself at the fair under the motto "Portugal Makes Sense". As in previous years, the focus in 2022 will be on sustainable and digitalised production.

Due to the high capacity utilisation of the exhibition grounds in Hannover with numerous events in early summer, the world's leading trade fair for industry has to be shortened to four days this year. In 2023, Hannover Messe will again be held on five days in April as usual.
