Bitkom said 81% of respondents expect 3D printers to strongly change individual industrial sectors. In addition, 3% said the devices would “revolutionise” the economy. Only 8% of the companies polled predicted 3D printer technology would not gain any significant importance.

Bitkom Managing Director Bernhard Rohleder said he expected the devices to leave their mark on much of the business world. “Three-dimensional printers have the potential to significantly and sustainedly alter many areas of the economy.”
