Walter AG is “ideally placed to master the challenges of the future and further expand our position as competence leader in machining,” says new president Mirko Merlo.

The production tooling specialist Walter AG,: a member of the Sandvik group of companies, has a new president. Mirko Merlo, formerly a member of the Walter board serving as executive vice president, became president on January 1, 2012. He succeeded Andreas Evertz, who has become president of Sandvik Machining Solutions.

The 47-year-old Merlo has been with Sandvik for 27 years. He has previously been responsible for company operations in the UK, Brazil and Italy and was president of operations in Western Europe.

“Mirko’s many years of experience at Walter, his comprehensive knowledge in metalworking and his international experience in various management positions have given him a high professional standing in the industry and created an excellent network,” says Evertz.

Prior to January 1, Merlo expressed eagerness to take on his new responsibilities. “In recent years, Walter has developed into an international company with subsidiaries in all the important markets of the world,” he noted. “We are ideally placed to master the challenges of the future and further expand our position as competence leader in machining.”

Andreas Evertz remains closely connected with Walter in his new role. Appointed director of technology at Walter in 2008, he had been in change of the entire Walter Group since April 2010. Before arriving at Walter, Evertz held a variety of management posts at Siemens and at Flender.
