The importance of mould temperature control is critical as it has a significant impact on cycle time, process efficiency and the quality of the parts produced, ranging from scrap to acceptable parts. Continuous monitoring of mould temperature control is essential to maintain a stable production process and minimise downtime, machine failure or defective output.

Optical flow monitoring is a viable alternative to complex flow measurements, providing immediate insight into the status of flow within temperature control channels. It allows early detection of problems such as leaks or blockages, enabling rapid corrective action. The SAGK Series indicators frm Nonnenmann facilitate visual inspection of flow rates in mould temperature control units and hoses, promoting immediate response to changes and anomalies.

Designed for easy installation and use in production, maintenance and service operations, the optical flow indicator is praised for its compactness and low investment cost. Jochen Schwegler, Technical Consultant for Application Technology at Nonnenmann, emphasises the value of the device in ensuring consistent product quality and reducing the need for costly interventions. He advocates the use of the flow indicator as a simple and economical alternative to more complex systems, enhancing visual monitoring capabilities without the need for extensive set-up.

Constructed from durable nickel-plated brass with a sight glass and internal plastic turbine, the indicator allows visual monitoring of water flow up to 100 °C and 20 bar pressure. Available in a range of sizes, it is positioned to monitor flow directly in the pipe between the manifold and the temperature control hose, or in the supply lines, facilitating early detection of process irregularities and preventing production errors and unnecessary repairs.

The use of the SAGK series of optical flow indicators is a cost-effective, space-saving and time-efficient approach to improving process reliability in injection moulding production.
