With the new Akvis IO IME (Injection Molding Edition) data analysis software, Kistler is enabling its customers to take a further step towards the digitalisation of injection moulding: all data from machines and process monitoring systems such as Como Neo and Como Scout can now be visualised and analysed synchronously and across all processes.

In addition to suitable machines and tools, high-performance and transparent injection moulding processes often require in-depth optimisation using sensors and continuous monitoring of production. Data management and data analysis play a decisive role in the sustainable optimisation of processes: they are the missing, often still barely used building block in the value chain of modern plastics processing.

Akvis IO IME from Kistler closes this gap and enables customers to manage and analyse data across devices and processes. The data analysis software for recording, storing and analysing high-frequency sensor and machine signals during injection moulding is aimed equally at process engineers and data scientists. It replaces the previous data management solution Como Data Center (CDC) from Kistler and provides comprehensive analysis functions including automatic data synchronisation with all networked systems.

Complete digital solution for process engineers and data scientists

Akvis IO IME offers easy setup and configuration of Kistler's connected injection moulding machines and process monitoring systems such as Como Neo and Como Scout. Digital assets such as mould configurations, reference curves and monitoring objects can be easily transferred and consistently managed thanks to seamless synchronisation — both on the host computer (Akvis IO) and directly on the machine. All data is stored on a cycle-related basis and can be compared and analysed across cycles — providing customers with a reliable source (single source of truth) for all production data relating to their plastics processing. The cross-machine and cross-device monitoring of all injection moulding processes also makes it easier to create customised reports for quality assurance.

As a modular and scalable software solution, Akvis IO already has a range of analysis functions that are gradually being expanded. These include the monitoring functions (Evaluation Objects, EOs) familiar from Como Scout and Como Neo as well as working with reference curves. In addition, there are cross-cycle trend analyses and statistical process control (SPC) with output of characteristic values for process capability and stability such as cp, cpk, mean value and standard deviation. All the analysis data obtained can be visualised accordingly and integrated into quality reports and reports.

Customised, modular and scalable

The Akvis IO IME data analysis software has been available since September, initially for the Como Scout process monitoring system. This entry-level solution from Kistler evaluates all available machine signals and is particularly suitable as a retrofit for the digital connection of injection moulding machines that still operate without mould sensors or focus on the evaluation of temperature signals at the voltage inputs. From January 2024, the new data analysis software will also be activated for the Como Neo process monitoring system, which monitors the injection moulding process using cavity pressure and temperature sensors.

The scope of Akvis IO IME can be customised. Further modules, for example for trend monitoring with artificial intelligence, will be made available gradually. Users of the previous CDC database solution can simply upgrade to Akvis IO, which will also act as the standard software for Como Neo and Como Scout from 2024. Thanks to integrated user management and rights management via LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol), Akvis IO also leaves nothing to be desired in terms of auditing, data security and traceability.
