Kennametal Digital tooling solution to boost shop productivity
USA – Kennametal has launched a Cloud-enabled digital tooling data solution that it says will help users improve inventory control and boost shop productivity.
The new Toolboss vending solution connects with Novo, the company’s Cloud-enabled digital tooling and process knowledge vehicle, in order to raise standards of tool availability and save downtime, as well as avoiding the high cost of emergency or overnight shipping.
The company says that recent research indicates that up to 70% of manufacturing executives are focussing on plant-floor data initiatives to drive operational and business excellence, improve time-to-market, and speed up access to data from machines on the factory floor. Toolboss users on the Cloud with the latest software version can now use Novo to see if an item proposed for a process plan is already available in their Toolboss inventory. Kennametal claims that this makes plans and budgets more time- and cost-efficient. The Toolboss-Novo linkage is intended to provide customers with the ability to quickly identify the optimal tool for the job and assess its availability. The company asserts that this enables customers to move from design to shop floor very quickly and with the most efficient cutting tool option. The solution is also claimed to make it easier to order new tools, provide secure back-up of data and conduct proactive diagnostic checks and updates to the Toolboss. John Jacko, Kennametal VP and CMO, maintained that customers can expect time savings of 20-50% in quoting, programming, set-up and machining processes, compared to traditional approaches, thereby freeing up highly skilled staff to focus on their core product areas, rather than being distracted by tool selection, application, and data integration.
Kennametal says that the connection of Toolboss and Novo has been made possible through partnership with the Machining Cloud GmbH and Supply Point Systems, Toolbos Vending Solutions’ supply chain partner.
