Since 2019, Upper Austrian start-up Digital Moulds has been working with the BMW Group on the digital transformation of injection moulding tools. The aim is to make tool performance measurable, optimise processes and significantly increase transparency along the supply chain. The collaboration is an example of how digitalisation creates sustainable added value in toolmaking.

At the heart of the solution is a powerful interface that works independently of any system and integrates seamlessly into the BMW Group's existing IT infrastructure. Standardised data transfer is designed for high efficiency in complex production environments. Other international companies are already using the solution thanks to its clear documentation, high performance and ease of use.

Real-time data and global mould monitoring for greater transparency

A central element of the digital solution is mould monitoring. This monitors the condition of the tools, locates their position and processes the data in real time. This gives those responsible an overview of the tool status and usage at all times, regardless of location and time. In addition, dashboards and key performance indicators ensure transparency and enable proactive control in quality assurance and tool qualification.

Digital Moulds scores with high technical expertise, short decision-making processes and fast action. As a subsidiary of toolmaking experts Haidlmair and Hofmann, the start-up benefits from comprehensive know-how. Digital Moulds' technologies are easy to install — both on new and existing tools. Fast implementation saves time and money.

Digital Moulds' real-time data enables data-based production control, which is becoming increasingly important. It creates the basis for strategic decisions in tool qualification and production.

Julian Resch, CEO of Digital Moulds, emphasises the importance of the partnership: “The long-standing cooperation with the BMW Group is a strong sign of trust and an important step for further digital development in toolmaking.”
