Developed by Creaform, a division of Ametekt, the MAX Series incorporates artificial intelligence algorithms for 3D scanning of large and complex parts in a variety of applications including dimensional inspection, product development and reverse engineering. The latest addition to the Handyscan 3D range, the MAX Series, is a handheld industrial 3D scanner designed and manufactured in Canada. It offers a large scan area of approximately 1 m x 1 m, suitable for accurate measurement of large and complex surfaces. The scanners feature multiple scanning modes, allowing users to choose between speed and maximum resolution. The versatility of these portable 3D scanners supports the measurement of large parts and assemblies up to 15 metres in length, which is particularly useful in industries such as aerospace, transportation, energy, mining and heavy industry.

The MAX Series provides metrology-grade results with a volumetric accuracy of 0.100 mm + 0.015 mm/m, meeting ISO 17025 and VDI/VDE 2634 Part 3 standards. This accuracy makes it suitable for quality control, precise mating of tight-tolerance parts and demanding reverse engineering tasks. The scanners use dynamic referencing algorithms for accurate 3D scanning in a variety of environments.

The system is easy to set up and compatible with CAD software, making it easy to integrate 3D scanning into product development, inspection and reverse engineering processes. Key features of the MAX Series include Flex Volume, which enables quality scanning at different distances, and a Smart Surface algorithm that optimises surface measurements. In addition, the MAX Series integrates real-time calibration into the scanning workflow.

Simon Côté, Product Manager at Creaform, highlights the MAX Series' ability to measure large and complex 3D surfaces with a handheld device, a capability that was previously difficult or impossible. This innovation offers manufacturers new solutions for dimensional measurement.
