One of these tasks is seen in pump casings for auto power steering, which has components with non-circular forms that must be processed in high-volume production with a dimensional accuracy in the micrometer range. According to Emag, its VG 110 vertical grinder is a complete solution for the precision machining of small chucked parts. Along with out-of-round machining of inner and outer contours, the machine can also be used for cylindrical grinding. With its internal grinding spindle and turning tool, the machine is also good for combination machining. Its innovative vertical design ensures that chips fall downward freely, avoiding contamination of the clamping area.

The vertical design also means that the slide structure is very compact and can therefore achieve a high degree of rigidity. One special characteristic of the VG 110 grinder is its good thermostability. To be able to achieve maximum accuracy when machining small workpieces, the X and Z-axes are mounted separately on the machine base, while the machine cooling ensures that work result is consistent.

The VG 110 is suited for the use of CBN grinding technology, with both dressable ceramic and galvanised CBN grinding wheels as an option. Rotating diamond dressing tools and the necessary AE sensors guarantee high quality and consistent results for dressable grinding systems, Emag says.

The machine is easy to load thanks to its shuttle and lifting station. The compact machine design with integrated electrical cabinet also means that very little space is required.

Furthermore, the machine is easily accessible for servicing work. A “door-in-door” concept was developed for this purpose. A small sliding door can be used for quick manual intervention in the machining area. This door is, in turn, integrated into a large front panel door. The large front panel door can then be opened very quickly via its handle whenever servicing is required, with all the machine’s relevant components being directly accessible for service.

The Emag Group is exhibiting at Grindtec 2018, the International Grinding Technolgy Fair taking place in Augsburg, Germany from 14-17 March. A highlight of the company's appearance in Hall 5, Booth 5029 will be the presentation and demonstration of the vertical grinder, VG 110.
