Ceratizit has launched a coating boasting high levels of toughness and heat resistance, the company said. The cutting edges of the colourful coat inserts are said to be extremely stable and guarantee increased process security. According to Ceratizit, the company places particular emphasis on meeting the needs of today’s cutting tools industry towards longer tool life, faster processes and cutting operations. Instead of using black or golden inserts, It offers coloured inserts with coatings in shimmering shades of green and red, the company said.

According to Ceratizit, the main advantage offered by colourful coat is that it makes it easy to recognise wear. When the cutting edge is worn, the surface structure and the colour of the insert change, the company explained. This effect is achieved through the multi-layer structure of the aluminium oxide used, with each layer consisting of very fine crystals which are said to improve the mechanical properties.
