In early December, Michèle Detaille and Christophe Losange, managing director and manager, respectively, of Codipro,: a company specializing in high-quality swivel lifting rings, accepted the Export Award conferred for the first time by the Office du Ducroire (Export Credit Agency) and Chamber of Commerce of Luxembourg.

This coveted prize rewards several years of effort by Codipro and its partners. Today, 99% of Codipro’s turnover is generated by sales outside the Grand Duchy, and 11% of sales is to customers beyond the borders of Europe.

When Codipro was acquired by the shareholders of No-Nail Boxes in 2004, the company exported its products to six nations. The catchment area today is worldwide: the manufacturer sells its lifting rings in 32 countries.

The award recipients especially thanked the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce and the Export Credit Agency, the former for enabling Codipro to take part in the many events it organizes abroad, and the latter for giving the company export assistance and credit guarantees. “Without such guarantees, our trading relations would be far more complex, less clear and less secure,” explains Detaille.

Losange provides significant figures regarding business trips organized by the Luxembourg government: “Thanks to our meeting with our Chinese distributors at the Week of Economy in Shanghai in 2010, their turnover jumped from €65,000 in September 2010 to €233,000 a year later. In 2008, the economic mission to Turkey enabled us to recruit a distributor, to discover new suppliers and to audit existing suppliers. And at the Big 5 Show 2009 in Dubai, we met some 20 potential distributors active in the Middle East, with whom we consolidated our relations during the 2010 edition of that fair.”

Codipro, founded in France, has experience steady growth throughout its lifetime. As the company has sought customers farther afield, it has pursued a marketing policy based on building a solid network of global distributors.

The Export Award is intended to be conferred on Luxembourg-based small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that have distinguished themselves by international sales initiatives with positive results. Its purpose is to honour SMEs that have thereby helped make foreign trade the most dynamic and competitive element of the Luxembourg economy. The award will be presented annually.
