As of 15 May, Clara Smith has taken on the role of Vice President Strategy & Transformation. She will also become a member of SMG, the Seco Management Group, reporting to Stefan Steenstrup, President Seco. Clara is based in the UK. She brings a wealth of experience in strategy, transformation and leadership to her new role. With a proven track record of driving impactful change in large organisations, Smith has expertise in areas ranging from market and operational strategy development to mergers and acquisitions, including cross-border antitrust, and business transformation.

In her most recent role as Group Head of Market Strategy at Hitachi Rail, she played a key role in shaping the global market and operations strategy across regions and businesses, including organic and inorganic growth. Clara has also led a number of corporate assignments for the Hitachi Group, including decarbonisation and COP26. Prior to joining Hitachi, she gained valuable experience in a variety of sectors, from consumer goods to development banking. Smith holds degrees from Oxford University and New York University.

In her new role, she will be actively involved in setting Seco's strategic direction, driving improvements and efficiencies across the business through cross-functional collaboration. She will also lead strategy execution and strategic business planning, as well as M&A related activities. In addition, she will lead the identification and development of new business opportunities, including strategic partnerships.
