Caracol, a company specializing in large-format additive manufacturing (LFAM) with robotic systems, has announced a partnership with Additive Engineering Solutions (AES), a provider of turnkey LFAM services. The collaboration is intended to foster the adoption of additive manufacturing technologies within the Aerospace & Defense (A&D) sector.

As part of the partnership, AES will integrate Caracol’s Heron AM platform to enhance its production capabilities. The collaboration will focus on projects such as tooling for composites and full-scale engineering mockups, combining AES’s expertise in A&D-specific requirements with Caracol’s advanced additive manufacturing technology.

AES brings significant industry experience to the partnership, including a history of delivering tooling and engineering solutions to A&D Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and Tier 1 suppliers. The company is certified under the AS9100 Quality Management System and complies with NIST Cybersecurity standards, reinforcing its position as a reliable supplier within the U.S. A&D market.

Caracol’s Heron AM platform, known for its capabilities in robotic additive manufacturing, has been adopted globally in the A&D sector. The company operates an AS9100-certified production facility in Europe and specializes in large-format 3D printing using thermoplastic composites and metals. Its integrated hardware and software platforms are designed for flexibility and scalability, enabling seamless adaptation to specific production needs.

By leveraging their complementary strengths, Caracol and AES aim to advance innovation in additive manufacturing applications for A&D. The partnership combines AES’s strong market presence and industry credentials with Caracol’s modular technology solutions, enabling both companies to enhance their positions in the rapidly evolving field of additive manufacturing.

“We are very happy for this strategic partnership with AES. Their know-how and experience in developing cutting-edge applications for the Aerospace & Defense industry, perfectly matches Caracol’s DNA in developing application-driven integrated turnkey HW/SW technological platforms,” says Francesco De Stefano, CEO and Co-founder of Caracol. “Together, we can really push the boundaries of Large Format AM in highly regulated industries for both polymers and metal applications.”

“We’re excited to partner with Caracol as A&D application development is at the core of what AES does on a daily basis,” said Austin Schmidt, President & Co-Founder of AES. “Aside from expanding our reach in this industry, Caracol’s offering of both turnkey polymer and metallic robotic platforms is of interest to AES as we continue to evolve in the LFAM market.”
