Schott-Systeme CAD/CAM software now includes curvature smoothing
Schott Systeme presented its latest 5-axis simultaneous machining techniques at Euromold 2014.

Schott claims that its new technologies solve many of the problems that traditional CAM solutions experience when applying 5-axis simultaneous operations to poorly-constructed CAD models. The problem is described thus: with 5-axis machining, the tool inclination relates directly to the orientation of the part surfaces being machined, whether that be for swarf cutting or finishing. Models containing surfaces without tangential transitions will often experience unexpected 5-axis toolpaths.
German tool and mould makers exceed expectations
Schott’s CAD/CAM software solution, Pictures by PC, now includes Curvature Smoothing. Taking a swarf cutting operation as an example, typical geometry discrepancies can be totally ignored within a given distance, Schott explained. The resulting toolpath and tool orientation are then smoothed across this distance, to give a fluid tool movement.
