Some 85% of machine tool manufacturers in Spain are based in the Basque region, and the Bilbao Exhibition Centre in the heart of the area is their natural showcase, the organiser says. Manufacturers will predominate at the 27th Biemh: more than two-thirds of the exhibitors who have booked exhibit space make machines, tools and accessories. The remainder will display electrical, electronic, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment; metrology, control and CAD/CAM/CAE equipment; and other types of machinery and equipment.

In terms of numbers, 1,097 companies from 25 countries already have confirmed their participation as Biemh 2012. The campaign to attract visitors also is going well, the organiser said: More than 36,000 trade experts have expressed interest in attending the event, including representatives of the most strategic sectors for the Spanish machine tool industry: railway, aerospace, automotive and wind energy.

The trade fair is supplemented by a programme of specialist seminars. In one, Aspromec (the Association of Professionals for the Competitiveness of Mechanisation) is presenting a report on its Aviva project, a study of the competitiveness of the mechanisation industry in Spain. In addition, tours of production plants in the region will be organised with the co-operation of AFM (the Advanced Manufacturing Technologies Association of Spain) and SPRI, the Basque development agency.
