Joyful faces dominated the picture on Tuesday evening at the Convention Center of the Hanover Exhibition Grounds. The jury, consisting of editors from the two sister magazines Blechnet and Maschinenmarkt, ceremoniously selected the winners in seven categories.
In the categories Forming and Stamping Technology - Machining Equipment, Forming and Stamping Technology - Components & Tools, Automation and Handling, Joining Technology, Separation Technology, Surface Technology as well as Measuring & Control Technology, the companies with the greatest innovations in their field were able to reap the laurels. As with the Oscars, three companies were nominated in each category.

Award winning steps into the digital reality
In the first category, Forming and Stamping Technology – Machining Eqipment, G+K Umformtechnik prevailed over Feintool (fineblanking press “FB one”) and Coast One Oy (electric pressbrake with spindle drive “Bull15”) with the double-column deep-drawing press with impact function “H VZ 60”, which enables a combination of bending, embossing, stamping and deep-drawing plus impact function with high approach speed on a single press. This is the first time that the impact function has been implemented on a hydraulic system.
When it came to forming and punching components and tools, Bosch Rexroth was ahead of Otto Bihler (standardized tool kit "Leantool progressive compound system") and Fibro (wedge gate valve "lower part premium gate valve"). With the "Cytro Box" hydraulic power pack for presses, Bosch Rexroth has won the prize for a component that provides press manufacturers with the advantages of hydraulic drives in an efficient and space-saving way. Thanks to the switch cabinet design, the unit can be installed quickly and easily in existing production lines, even where space is limited. The integrated sensor system with data interface and data analysis by ODiN enable the machine manufacturer to perform comprehensive condition monitoring, modernize his production and increase the cost-effectiveness of his application.
Complete automation solution for sheet metal bending
In the Automation and Handling category, Bystronic was able to hold its own against Trumpf (cyberphysical indoor localization system with ultra-broadband "Track&Trace" technology) and Fährenkämper (wrapping machine with two opposing linear systems "Line Stretch One") in the jury. The fully automated bending cell "Bending Cell" from Bystronic is a complete automation solution for bending sheet metal. Processes previously performed manually are automated, including tool changes and job changes. This makes 24/7 unmanned production possible.
First place on the podium in joining technology is taken by Heinz Soyer Bolzenschweißtechnik (universal automatic welding head with linear motor drive "LSK-1") and ELMA-Tech GmbH (aluminium spot welding process without additional equipment or material "VMC Vision Alu") from Trumpf. The 3D laser machine for processing 3D components "Tru Laser Cell 7040" uses the patented Bright Line Weld welding process to increase welding speed by up to 300 % for mild steel and 100 % for stainless steel, while at the same time reducing energy costs by 40 %. The weld seams are optically characterized by an almost spatter-free surface. The patented 2in1 fiber is also designed for a flexible change between welding and cutting.
System automatically regulates the feed speed of solid-state laser machines
In the cutting technology category, Amada won the race against Bystronic (tilt optimization process for increasing process reliability in laser cutting "By Soft 7 tilt optimization") and Kasto (high-performance bandsaw machine specially designed for cutting additively manufactured components from the "Kasto win amc" base plate). Amada has developed the fiber laser cutting machine "Ventis-3015AJ", with which it has been possible for the first time to achieve a cutting quality equal to that of a CO2 laser. At the same time it is possible to increase the processing speed, even compared to existing fiber lasers of the same power.
Since VSM was able to prevail against BIP-Industrietechnik (cleaning system with dry degreasing process for small parts "Eurosorb®") and Tripuris (deburring and polishing machine "Double-Sheet equipped with P-180/P-80 High-Speed Tripuris planetary aggregate") in the category surface technology, the award for the abrasive for the processing of stainless steel, superalloys and unalloyed steels "VSM Ilumeron" goes to Hanover. The reason: with VSM Ilumeron, very high gloss levels as well as extremely fine and constant surfaces can be produced - and with very low tolerances. In addition, grinding and polishing are possible in a single work step, which leads to increased efficiency.
As far as measuring and testing technology is concerned, Trumpf won ahead of Roland Electronic (thickness gauge for non-contact measurement "Roland LTM/ LTM-S") and Raziol together with Autorform Engineering (testing system for determining friction coefficients for integration in simulation software "Tribometer 5100 and Triboform R3.0 Autoformplus R8") and took the trophy home with them. The intelligent "Active Speed Control" cutting process sensor from Trumpf is a system that looks directly into the laser cut through the cutting nozzle, monitors it in real time and automatically regulates the feed speed of solid-state laser machines. Whether flame or melt cutting, the function increases process reliability and reduces scrap and rework. Active Speed Control reacts immediately to changes in the processed material. The system significantly increases the productivity of the system.
