Faro Technologies said it has expanded its FaroArm product line to include the Prime arm, a six-axis portable measurement arm for high-accuracy, contact-only measurement solutions for everyday inspection and quality assurance.

Available in four lengths from 1.8 m to 3.7 m, the arm is said to have accuracies as tight as 0.019 mm. This latest FaroArm has also been equipped with Bluetooth wireless technology, which eliminates the need to tether the device to a laptop, the company said. It noted the unit features an extended-use battery, and the arm's composite material construction ensures durability.

Together, these features make the Prime the ideal solution for basic measurements in inspection, reverse engineering, CAD-to-part analysis and anywhere else a high-accuracy, hard-probing measurement solution is needed, the company said.

The design of the arm was driven by the input from customers about their requirements, according to the manufacturer. It said the unit seeks to meet requests for greater accuracy in routine contact measurement applications without many of the added features or 3D scanning capabilities on other models. Faro said the arm is the company's most accurate and that it offers unmatched value.

The company added that the arm is compatible with Faro’s CAM2 Measure 10 software as well as those from other suppliers.
